Direct Vent Gas Fireplace Inserts, fit inside your existing wood fireplace opening, providing an instant upgrade in both looks and heating efficiency. Direct Vent insets pull outside air into the unit for combustion and exhaust any remaining gas or contaminates back outside. These units can be upto 85 percent efficient and are a great way to provide supplemental heat to your home. Due to the venting required for these units they are typically more expensive than comparable vent free units.
VENT FREE / VENTLESS GAS FIREPLACE INSERTS
Vent free fireplace inserts are beautiful, affordable, easy to install and economical to operate. They are a great option for updating a outdated wood fireplace. A vent free gas insert is a complete, compact system that fits right into your existing fireplace structure. A benefit to choosing a vent free gas insert is there is no costly venting to run and you will have more options in where in the home you can install the unit.
Vent Free Inserts use air from inside you home for combustion and burn almost 100 percent efficiently. Any remaining gases do however vent back into your house. Some clients have complained that there are odors associated with these units. Since the unit pulls air from inside your house for combustion this means that any contaminants, like pet dandruff or hair can potentially be pulled into the unit and burned creating an odor. Additional, log placement on these units is critical. Incorrectly placed logs can result in harmful gases, odors and soot build up. Finally most manufactures do not recommend that you burn vent free inserts for more than three or four hours continuously.
